Sash & Casement Window Renovation

Full Timber Window Renovation Service

Full timber sash and casement window restoration is a specialist conservation process that focuses on retaining and repairing original joinery rather than replacing it. In many period properties—particularly Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian homes—the original timber windows are a defining architectural feature. Restoration typically involves carefully dismantling the window units, repairing or splicing decayed timber, reinstating glazing where needed, and refurbishing the existing sash cords, pulleys, and ironmongery. Draught proofing systems can also be discreetly integrated to significantly improve thermal performance while preserving the historic appearance of the windows.

In the case of listed buildings, restoration is especially important because original windows are often protected as part of the building’s historic fabric. Organisations such as Historic England emphasise repair over replacement wherever possible, since original timber windows contribute to the architectural authenticity and heritage value of a property. Full restoration allows homeowners to remain compliant with conservation requirements while avoiding the loss of character that can occur with modern uPVC replacements or inappropriate alterations

The benefits of Restoring over costly replacement

The benefits of full sash and casement restoration are both practical and aesthetic. Properly restored timber windows can dramatically improve energy efficiency through discreet draught proofing, reduce noise infiltration, and extend the lifespan of the original joinery by decades. At the same time, they preserve the proportions, sightlines, and craftsmanship that make period properties distinctive. For many owners of heritage and listed homes, restoration also helps maintain property value by respecting the building’s original design intent while upgrading comfort and usability for modern living.

Dust Prevention.

Whilst working in your home we take every care to ensure that we create as little mess as possible, working on the windows can be a dusty process even when using dust extraction enabled tools.

We try to minimise that where possible by erecting our dust wall system when working on the window frames, this consists of fabric sheeting held by special spring loaded poles from floor to ceiling and spans wall to wall around the area to be worked on creating a barrier.

This will enable us to keep the dust levels in the room to the absolute minimum, less mess equals less stress and quicker cleanup time.

Great Company, Highly Recommended

“I been using CTWS to refurb all our wooden windows in phases over the last year or so. They have been great. Attention to detail, restore old windows very sympathetically and have retrofitted slim line double glazing and draft proofing where possible and so now we have beautiful old windows to more modern standards. Would definitely recommend..”
